Ardent means passionate, dedicated, committed, devoted, enthusiastic, fervent, zealous.....
This is how I feel about helping others become aware of harmful chemicals and ingredients
in the products we use, and offering healthy natural products that meet stringent
requirements for safety, purity, and effectiveness.
The inspiration for Ardent Beauty was a natural process, and has become my passion.
I’ve always believed in “going natural” whenever possible - especially in regard
to food and drugs. However, after reading The China Study by T. Colin Campbell (an
important study on diet, which I highly recommend), I went online to purchase another
similar book. Somehow I got sidetracked and found several books regarding the toxins
in our personal care and beauty products (what?), and was so enthralled with the
preliminary information that I purchased Not Just a Pretty Face by Stacy Malkan.
Well, it was life changing. After reading about the toxic chemicals in everyday
cosmetics, skin care, hair care, baby care, etc. and the lack of government regulation
in regards to these products, I was shocked. I’m not one to just trust or believe
the first thing I hear, so I started researching further. Yes, it’s all true, and
the information is easily available to us if we just know to look for it. But most
of us have no clue there is even an issue! I became disgusted with the way mainstream
manufacturers intentionally mislead consumers for their own gain. I had been innocently
endangering my own and my family’s health by unknowingly applying noxious chemicals
to our bodies and household environment. What was I putting on my little girl’s
skin? It had never occurred to me before that products claiming to care for our
skin might actually be very dangerous. I had suffered from problem skin for years
(acne and eczema), and had gone through every expensive “medical grade” facial care
brand on the market. The products always eventually quit working, so they would
recommend a new one, which I would happily buy in hopes that it would “fix” my skin.
I investigated all the well-known and trusted brands my family used, and ultimately
threw away almost every personal care and cleaning product in our house (including
my latest $550 “Brand X” set of professional facial care, which had the most toxic
chemicals of all - including hydroquinone). I made my own natural skin care tonic
for the interim, and began more research to find the best and safest products. I
settled on a few truly natural and organic brands made by smaller companies that
I grew to know and trust.
I also learned through this process that “natural” is a big selling point, and there
are many companies touting their products as natural, when they are absolutely not!
Truly natural means every ingredient is taken directly from nature, and absolutely
no synthetic chemicals are added. Nature always has and always will provide us everything
we need for health. Products from nature retain healing and nourishing properties,
and will re-balance our skin as nature intended. Our bodies are not equipped to
metabolize the onslaught of chemicals we absorb! In my own experience, an unexpected
but welcome side benefit of using natural products is that I don’t have “problem”
skin anymore. I had always looked for the strongest product I could to combat my
problematic skin, when in fact I was making it worse!
As I continued my quest for natural products and education, and I told everyone I
know about the toxins in our personal care products, I eventually realized I had
a true passion for this. I sought a better way to inform others, and decided I would
truly love to represent these ethical companies and make their healthy products available
to others. Thus Ardent Beauty was conceived! We only offer 100% natural products
that we use ourselves. I hope you feel inspired to try “going natural” for yourself
and your family. I know you will be pleased with the results!
